The Price of Freedom
A Visual Essay by Olga Lynx

On the kind of freedom that begins after the door has opened.
Cage is Open - Olga Lynx
Freedom rarely begins the moment the door finally opens.

More often, it begins later.

When the way out already exists —
but the body, the memory, and the old system
are still living by the old rules.

Sometimes the cage opens
before we are ready to leave it.

The space is already open.

The door is no longer locked.

But freedom has not yet become an inner reality.

Sometimes the cage opens before the fear is gone.

The first step does not always look like courage.

From the outside, it looks like movement.

From within, it feels like a negotiation

between memory and the body.

Even after we step outside,

we keep looking back for a long time.

Freedom rarely arrives with certainty.

Sometimes it arrives with the old habit

of waiting for permission.

True freedom does not need to prove itself.

It no longer needs to explain its choices.

It does not need to look back.

It does not need to be agreeable.

It simply moves forward.
